On this page we are going to explain the different scoring criteria that can be given in the World Excel 2022. The examples are totally fictitious, and only serve to illustrate how Excel works.
In each group, each one establishes the scores that they believe appropriate. Some scores will be left at 0 because they do not want that criterion to add up, in other cases they will give more points to some criteria than to others because they value them more. That already depends on each group. In that sense, everything is flexible and each group can do it according to their needs.
Qatar World Cup Excel Scoring Criteria
Group Stage Scores:
Within the group stage points can be obtained with the following criteria:
- GROUP STAGE- 1X2* (home, draw, away): Hit the Sign 1X2 (home, draw, away) of each matchup in the group stage. That is, if you guess the team that wins or that there is a draw.
- GROUP STAGE – Goal Difference (with 1X2 correct): To add in this you have to have hit the sign and also hit the goal difference. This scoring criteria is new to this edition of excel.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact result: Hit the 1st place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact position (1º): Hit the 1st place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact position (2º): Hit the 2st place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact position (3º): Hit the 3rd place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact position (4º): Hit the 4th place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- Nation Qualified for ROUND OF 16: In addition, points can be obtained for matching the teams classified for the round of 16, in this scoring criterion the classification order does not matter.
Example group stage scores
Suppose we award 1 point for guessing the sign of the match, 1 point for guessing the goal difference and another point for guessing the exact score as in the table below.

Let’s imagine that the result of the Qatar-Ecuador match is 3-0 in favor of Qatar. Let’s look at different options on how points would be earned using the score in the table above.

The match criteria are the same as in the group stage: sign, goal difference and exact result. And they are the same for all the knockout rounds. It is important to clarify what happens in the event of a draw in the 90th minute.
If there is no draw, the result that counts is the one in the 90th minute.
If there is a draw in the 90th minute, the result that counts is the 120th minute. For example, if the fictitious match Qatar – Iran in the 90th minute is 0-0 and in the 120th minute it is 1-0 in favor of Qatar, the result that counts is 1-0 in the 120th minute.
If in the 90th minute the result is 2-2 and in the 120th minute it remains 2-2, the 2-2 would still count, since there is no variation. If in the 90th minute the result is 2-2 and in the 120th minute it is 3-3, the 3-3 in the 120th minute would count.
2 examples knockout round scores
We are going to see 2 examples: one with a draw and the other without a draw at 90′ with the following scoring criteria in the 2 examples.

Example A) We imagine a fictitious match in the Round of 16 at the end of the 90th minute: Qatar 1 – Iran 0
In the table we add only the sign, the goal difference and the exact result and below the table we add the comment on the criteria of Team classified for quarters.

If the participant had also put that Qatar qualified for the Quarterfinals, he would add one more point for having predicted that Qatar would be in the Quarterfinals in the “Team qualified for the QUARTERS” criteria.
Example B) We imagine a fictitious match in the Round of 16: Qatar 0 – Iran 0 and Qatar wins on penalties

If, in addition, the participant had stated that Qatar qualifies for the Quarterfinals, he would add one more point for having predicted that Qatar would be in the Quarterfinals.
