This page explains the various scoring criteria used in Copa América Excel 2024. Please note that the examples are fictional and serve solely to illustrate how the scoring system works in practice.
Each group has the freedom to determine the score they consider appropriate for each criterion. They can leave specific criteria unweighted at 0, or prioritize others by assigning higher point values. This flexibility allows each team to tailor the scoring system to their specific needs.
USA Copa América Excel Scoring Criteria
Group Stage Scores:
Within the group stage points can be obtained with the following criteria:
- GROUP STAGE- 1X2* (home, draw, away): Hit the Sign 1X2 (home, draw, away) of each matchup in the group stage. That is, if you guess the team that wins or that there is a draw.
- GROUP STAGE – Goal Difference (with 1X2 correct): To add in this you have to have hit the sign and also hit the goal difference. This scoring criteria is new to this edition of excel.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact result: Hit the 1st place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact position (1st): Hit the 1st place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact position (2nd): Hit the 2nd place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact position (3rd): Hit the 3rd place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- GROUP STAGE – Exact position (4th): Hit the 4th place in each group. Points are earned for hitting each group individually.
- Nation Qualified for QUARTERFINALS: In addition, points can be obtained for matching the teams classified for quarterfinals, in this scoring criterion the classification order does not matter.
What is a BONUS?
The BONUS system allows the administrator to select certain matches that will award double or triple points. To do this, the administrator can choose between 1, 2, or 3 to the left of each match. BONUS can be applied to each match of all rounds at the discretion of each group.
- 1: Normal points
- 2: Double points
- 3: Triple points
The last column in the example tables below shows how the points would be calculated for a Bonus match (x2 is double and x3 is triple).
Example group stage scores
Suppose we award 1 point for guessing the sign of the match, 1 point for guessing the goal difference and another point for guessing the exact score as in the table below.

Let’s imagine that the result of the Peru – Chile match is 3-0 in favor of Peru. Let’s analyze different scoring systems and see how participants could rack up points using the score in the table above.

Scores of Quarter-finals, Semifinals, 3-4 place and final.
The match criteria are the same as in the group stage: sign, goal difference and exact result. And they are the same for all the knockout rounds. It is important to clarify what happens in the event of a draw in the 90th minute.
If there is no draw, the result that counts is the one in the 90th minute.
If there is a draw in the 90th minute, the result that counts is the 120th minute. For example, if the fictitious match Peru – Mexico in the 90th minute is 0-0 and in the 120th minute it is 1-0 in favor of Peru, the result that counts is 1-0 in the 120th minute.
If in the 90th minute the result is 2-2 and in the 120th minute it remains 2-2, the 2-2 would still count, since there is no variation. If in the 90th minute the result is 2-2 and in the 120th minute it is 3-3, the 3-3 in the 120th minute would count.

We are going to see 2 examples: one with a draw and the other without a draw at 90′ with the following scoring criteria in the 2 examples.

Example A) We imagine a fictitious match in the Round of 16 at the end of the 90th minute: Peru 1 – Mexico 0
In the table we add only the sign, the goal difference and the exact result and below the table we add the comment on the criteria of Team classified for quarters.

If the participant had also put that Peru qualified for Semifinals, he would add one more point for having predicted that Peru would be in the Semifinals in the “Team qualified for SEMIFINALS” criteria.
Example B) We imagine a fictitious match in Quarterfinals: Peru 0 – Mexico 0 and Peru wins on penalties

If, in addition, the participant had stated that Peru qualifies for the Semifinals, he would add one more point for having predicted that Peru would be in the Semifinals.
Frequently asked question in the Quarterfinals and other knockout rounds.
Matches that do not exist:
- A match that doesn’t exist doesn’t earn points. For example, Ecuador 2 – Panama 0 doesn’t count, even though Ecuador won their quarterfinal match 2-0. (See image below)
- However, it can still earn points if the “Team qualified for SEMIFINALS” criterion is met, as long as the correct team is predicted to advance.
Matches that exist but do not match the row:
- A match that exists but dosn’t match the row can still earn points if the result and/or sign are correctly predicted.
- It can also earn points if the “Team qualified for SEMIFINALS” criterion is met, as long as the correct team is predicted to advance.
Matches that exist but with the home and away teams swapped:
- A match that exists but with the home and away teams swapped can still earn points if the result and/or sign are correctly predicted.
- The row in which the match is located doesn’t matter.
- In this case, it can also earn points if the “Team qualified for SEMIFINALS” criterion is met, as long as the correct team is predicted to advance.
We include an example with several possibilities. The following points are awarded in the Round of 16 matches.
Let’s look at the fictitious match Ecuador 2 – Chile 0 and how points would be added with the following fictitious results of the participants. Obviously, what is on the right will not happen like this, but it is to illustrate with an example the points that add up with different possibilities.
